With all that had happened in New York City less than three months before, these shows were an incredible release — and a reminder of why we love to live in the good ol' U.S. of A. The last of the "regular" run — the next night was an added benefit show — was an amazing show. Just the right mix of tightly played songs and loose jamming. And what still puts a smile on my face, almost as much as the music itself, was the fact that I was sitting in front of three young women, only one of whom had seen the Grateful Dead with Jerry. As jaded as veteran Deadheads can be, myself included, I was thrilled to tell them that this was as close to the Grateful Dead at their peak as I had seen. And that statement still holds true (even if a few other Phil and Phriends shows since have reached that same level). This is an all-timer, and a must for anyone into what the jam band scene can offer musically. And thanks for all the great shows available at archive. You guys and girls TRULY rock!
